An Introduction to People.Joomla.org
The goal of people.joomla.org is to provide a networking opportunity for all the members of the Joomla! community and provide the best experience possible. To achieve this, there are a few usage conditions and guidelines that have been set forth to maintain consistency across the site and hopefully avoid confusion and let the community be a community!
We respect the rights of individuals and expect you to do the same. If you feel any content violates any of these guidelines, or you need to bring it to the attention of a moderator please use the ‘Report’ link to notify the moderators.
Code of Conduct and Generally Accepted Behavior
Site Moderation
Group level Moderation
Group Admins are expected to uphold the Community Code of Conduct and JPeople Guidelines for their group. There are a variety of solutions at your disposal including ban from group, thread lock, and even gentle options such as thread pause.

Site Level Moderation
- Those who do not follow the guidelines as stated above maybe warned up to three (3) times
- Depending on severity
- Probationary period
- 30 day ban
- 6 month ban
- Permanent ban
- We reserve the right to adjust the consequences to fit the case
- Users with offensive usernames or avatars will be blocked without warning - if you need to change your username and or displayname , please post a request on http://forum.joomla.org/viewforum.php?f=576.
- Usernames must not be a proper name or regular nickname
- User Names should be a person's name, not a company name or website name.
- Content not following the guidelines may be deleted or edited without warning.
- Spam will not be tolerated and will result in an immediate ban.
- We reserve the right to adjust these guidelines as is deemed necessary.
- Extensions suspended from the JED will also have any corresponding fan club suspended for the duration.
- Group pages for JUGs who have their registration approval removed will be moved to regional groups (added June 2011)
- Groups for Extensions or JUGs may be unpublished on request by the respective community teams (added June 2011)
Advertising and Promotion
Promotion of services, products or companies should be reasonable and is only allowed in your personal profile or a GPL and Trademark guidelines compliant Fan Club about that company, service or product. No self or commercial promotion in Topical Discussion Groups is allowed by default, the group leaders are ultimately moderating their groups.
User profile avatars can not be for a product/service/website (clarified June 2011)
Users may not place any AdSense or other Paid Advertising anywhere on people.joomla.org. If you want to advertise on Joomla.org you can use Adwords.
Videos and images may not be uploaded that are not related to web development or this community. All images and videos must be compliant with the Trademark Guidelines. Only Fan Clubs may add product or service-specific videos and images.
Groups - Its all about community driven collaboration!
Group Creation is currently disabled but these rules are left for informational purposes
People.joomla.org is about people, not companies and the focus should be on enabling discussions and not promotions.
- Groups are encouraged to have several administrators.
- A group's purpose should be related to Joomla!.
- Duplicates should be avoided, and every effort will be made to merge duplicates and group leaders.
- Groups about extensions and companies should be created in the spirit of enabling user discussion and collaboration.
- The Group leaders should take votes or make guidelines for their group as long as they also conform to the people.joomla.org guidelines.
- Group Admins should enforce the JPeople Guidelines and the Community Code of Conduct. Help is available for all group admins in the Private Admin Group
- Abandoned, ignored etc... groups may be deleted without notice to maintain usefulness.
Group Ownership - Groups belong to all
- All groups belong to people.joomla.org.
- A group "creator" is the person who suggested the creation of a group. The group creator may be changed to a moderator or administrator of people.joomla.org at any time.
- Groups are open forums giving the ability to any user to post and participate in discussions.
- We do encourage that groups elect/add several group "admins" (aka group leaders).
- User-suggested groups should be "topical discussion groups" in nature (i.e., Server Setup Discussion Group) or Area User Groups (groups of users that are geographically in a location, but not an approved JUG).
Special Groups, Categories and Fan Clubs
Some group categories are reserved for "special groups" which are:
- Fan Clubs - Discussion group for providers complying with GPL and TM. Providers and Developers not complying with GPL and TM standards are not permitted to have a Fan Club Group.
- Official Working Groups -
- Registered JUGs - Joomla Registered User Groups. Join at http://community.joomla.org/user-groups.html
- Regional User Groups - Geographically organized by Continent and/or Country Any group that is joined together geographically is welcome to be in this category.
- Non-English Community Networks - Organized by language spoken
- Community Help Group - JPeople help group for questions and communication about the JPeople Site.
- Just for Fun - A category is available under General Topics entitled General - Fun Just as the name implies, it is for the lighter side of Joomla. All site rules apply, however the subject may be more loosely related to Joomla. Inside the Category is a group for Off Topic fun, where humor is not limited to only Joomla related topics.
Events
The events area is for Joomla! events only and must adhere to all other guidelines set forth in this document. All commercial events must be declared as such, with full costs being shown on the event page, and it made clear that any certification or accreditation is not provided by or recognised by OSM or the Joomla! project. Failure on any part of these requirements will lead to event deletion
Videos
Only Videos that are related to Joomla in some way are allowed in the video stream on JPeople. All other videos must have a direct link to the video wherever it is hosted.
Videos must not be an advertisement for a company or self promotion.
Jobs & Projects
Posting of external jobs or projects, within profile or fan cubs pages, is not permitted. eg: you can not post that you are looking for a developer or designer, offer for tender contracts, advertise employment. Such posts will be classed as spam You can post within the defined groups relating to community driven translation or code projects.
