Joomla User Group Toronto
Description
Joomla! User Group Toronto (JUGT) is an informal association of users of the Joomla! open source content management system. It draws its members from Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. The group began as a mailing list gathered from multiple sources, such as sign-up sheets at trade shows and computer fests. Since the beginning of 2009, the group has been holding regular pub nights, providing an opportunity for members to meet in a casual environment to discuss Joomla and to network. Starting in late 2009, the group is working to hold more formal meetings that feature presentations on specific topics. One of our goals is to build sufficient momentum to be able to organize and host a Joomla! Day in Toronto. Membership is open to anyone. There are no dues. There is no process for formally joining the group. There is no formal group structure. The group's "leadership" is anyone with the motivation to step up and make a contribution. There is always a need for more people willing to help out. If you're interested in helping out, get in touch with us via mail, Twitter, Facebook, or Linkedin.

Agree with the prohibition on self-promotion. There are lots of other places for that anyway.
Now that this extension is GPL, maybe we should consider dropping it on the site and fostering the community there?
JomSocial is GPL now???? Great! I would love to see something like that on the JUGT site. I have been looking for extensions to do the posting of notifications from one site to another. Any ideas?
Yup, that.s what peeps.j.org is running, and you just know it's gotta be GPL before j.org is going to use it.
So is this an alternative to Google Groups, Facebook or the JUGT website? I hope it doesn't get hijacked by people trying to sell their services.
