Well, I don't plan on immediately upgrading all my sites when the 1.6 reaches General Availablity. At that time, I will, however, immediately start creating new sites in 1.6. I will not develop new sites in the Release Candidate versions and will wait for the final release. I will only use Beta's and RC's for testing. The exception MIGHT be if I think the final release is imminent and I have a new Joomla site to build. For existing sites, I will probably wait and do them over time.

Hello fellow Texans! I am a developer in the panhandle area near Amarillo. I have been an MS developer for about 15 years. Mostly .NET stuff. I have written lots of Windows based apps over the years and some ASP.net based stuff as well. I started using Joomla! about 2 years ago and I currently build all my clients sites using Joomla!. My development is still primarily MS based but the last year I have been working to learn PHP and Joomla! development. Any other developers on this group?

I'm always game for new ideas. I have a few in the pipeline, and a few that are almost ready for prime-time. Lately I've been spending a lot of time searching, calling, applying, interviewing....

Anyway, some ideas just deserve to be built. I like releasing free extensions because it sounds great in an interview and when pitching potential clients.

Sorry to hear that! Lets see, hopefully others from this board can point you in different directions also.

I live in the San Antonio region. There are small organizations that do joomla/Drupal work such as Firecat Studio.

But, if you are looking for larger corporations in different languages, and the full works, check out USAA. Interestingly enough, they have a tremendous IT department (always some bad there). There are some real IT needs down here. The health systems down here, such as Methodist and Baptist, etc. There are some startups and mid-sized businesses as well. I would take a look if you are interested in moving. Austin is probably the same but 2/4x us.

keep up the extension development! Maybe start a Joomla extensions business - take some pro through support and additional features. If you go that route, i've got some ideas for you, also.

edited: forgot Rackspace is here, also. etc etc.

Yeah, I was upset that JSecure went commercial. That's why I created AdminExile. It has fewer features than JSecure, but it suits my needs (apparently the needs of others too)

As far as 1.6 work, not so much. I was working for a large North Texas organization, but was laid off (along with my entire department and 450 other people). I had convinced my boss that 1.6 was the way to go and he agreed.

Since I was laid off, I've been busy looking for work.

Know anyone looking for a hard worker and deep thinker?

Michael, how have you found development work in 1.6 yet?

i went to your website ( http://www.richeyweb.com) and looked at the AdminExile. Like your extensions. I use JSecure plugin for some protection on the backend. With that transitioned to what it is, glad to run into your AdminExile.

I've been releasing a bunch of 1.6 extensions. For most of my 1.6 extensions, I have no plans to create them for 1.5 (although I've been paid by one individual to release a 1.5 version)

Texas. I guess we are do'ers and not talkers.

1.6 missing so many extensions that I use on my 1.5 sites. rather disappointed.

Anyone have a favorite new extension they rely on for their site.

So, I'll say that one of my favorite extensions is Docman for managing PDF's. Yes, I used Phocadownload and it is a great extensions development crew. But Docman is the best for me.

To spread the Joomla knowledge basket, anyone else want to chime in on their favorite Joomla extensions (components/plugins/modules).....

I'm definitely on the K2 bandwagon. We use it for the JoomlaPraise, AdminPraise and Projectfork sites and LOVE it. FLEXIcontent & Zoo look nice also, just have less experience w/them. CCK will change Joomla forever

must admit, I use K2 and on bandwagon also. I like greatly some features about zoo and especially flexicontent, but stuck with K2 for various reasons.
