Layout changes can be fixed with template changes or switching to a different template. Sometimes a simple change to some CSS can fix it, or it may be more complicated if you need to add new module positions to your template. Check out tutorials on Youtube - lots of tutorials about changing joomla templates there. Just search Youtube or Google for "how to change a joomla template" or a similar query. Also lots of free templates available - Google "free joomla templates".

I will soon be purchasing the book you suggested. In the meantime, this is what I have as FAQs on another website, using DW. I want to do the same here, using Joomla. Here is the site; http://walk2emmaus.com/faqs/faq-home.htm . If you click on the header of each section, it will take you to it's page. Thanks again

Hi Rockwel Joomla! uses a Menu system to handle the links to your articles or to the categories/sections that holding it , for more info visit : http://docs.joomla.org/Adding_a_new_menu_item and while you are there take a look at http://docs.joomla.org/Category:Menu_Management Its different for modules , you don't link directly to a module but you publish it to a certain position , usually in the area around the main content or component. Always use the help button at the top right of every admin page [that red life saver icon] , for example here are the help page for modules http://help.joomla.org/index2.php?option=com_content&task=findkey&tmpl=component;1&keyref=screen.modules.edit.15 Finally I think you should ask such questions at the support forum , where your chances to get more detailed replies are much better , and also to have the ability to get more answers for as many questions as you need , so visit Joomla! forum : http://forum.joomla.org/ good luck

jSeblod - and I feel that while there is some documentation out there, it sortof needs a table of contents or 1 consolidated place for it to all be, then people would use it so much more.

I third that. There is already a nice tutorial on Joomla Wiki about setting up a workstation for programming with Eclipse, that might be used as a starting point.

Also, although yet in development, joomgen seems promising in this regard. http://github.com/jetworks/joomgen

I'll second that ! Would be nice to find an up to date tutorial on how to make a component/module/plugin :)

OMG i'm glad I found this group! PLEASE create a detailed tutorial on using NetBeans, Eclipse, whatever to do extension development STEP-BY-STEP! from concept through packaging/publishing patches and packages in jforge. The existing tutorials do not completely do this and are out of date with current IDE versions.
I can't be the only totally clueless new deveolper here, though I might be { waves flag in surrender }
