Description

Cellular use is growing at an very large rate with many persons using their mobile phones for data versus voice calls. How will Joomla! be a part of this growth in the mobile market?

I have used the Layar (http://www.layar.com) augmented reality application with Joomla! It gets about 10k hits a day and works very well!

I have tried Mobile Joomla! but it drastically increased the size of my website. So, I'm now trying the viewport method where I can automatically redirect people to a different css based upon whether they are on a smartphone or tablet size. I am still working through "best practices" documentation for my favorite extensions.

Is anyone using a different method or have a different experience with Mobile Joomla!?

Hi Mary, Mobile Joomla! adds about 28Mb to your database, which contains information necessary to correctly detect full set of existing mobile devices including old ones that don't support media queries, etc.. You can of course go for viewport method (responsive design), however, please not that Mobile Joomla has a lot other features that cannot be done via responsive design, i.e image rescaling, support of subdomains, special mobile templates, etc..
