Hi Amy, you can view all the registered JUGs in the USA at http://community.joomla.org/user-groups/north-america/united-states.html I do see one that covers the Northern VA / DC area. If you guys are interested in starting an official group, be sure to check out the JUG FAQs section first... http://community.joomla.org/user-group-faqs.html

Cool I'm on it.............I'm working now on a plan to set-up user groups in places that don't have them a specialize in Joomla 1.6 learning on an introductory level. I will be headed to Southern California to organize groups and talk to business owners in that area for the next 2 months the population base of Southern California is over 20 million people. The state of California is one sixth of the United States.

1. FOOD. Always. You can rotate who brings it, or you can get sponsors and have snacks. 2. Encourage people to share what they are working on -- both the happy (launches, new projects, things they figured out) and the sad (things that don't work, stuck somewhere, sites getting hacked, etc) 3. Giveaways. Places that give away great stuff to user groups that are registered with them: Lynda.com, Peachpit, Wrox, O'Reilly, Pearson, InformIT. Often you have to ASK. Some Joomla devs will also give away extensions for free if someone in the group will do a presentation about that extension. Also, everything John said. :-)

It'd be great if the JUGs could collaborate here. Started off OK, but seems to have died in a matter of 2-3 months. What's goin' on ?

Steve Burge has raised a topic I believe to be the highest interest to all Joomla! evangelists, especially those who help leading a JUG. Please join steve at http://people.joomla.org/groups/viewdiscussion/411-Communicating+Better+With+NonEnglish+Joomla+Groups.html?groupid=558
