Basically we look at the groups who want to become joomla user groups, and make sure they fit within the guidleines, and help them overcome any issues.

Manoel J. SilvaManoel J. Silva on Wednesday, 13 April 2011 17:33

Hi Karl. Perhaps the group was deleted due to this http://people.joomla.org/groups/viewbulletin/595-PJO+spring+cleaning+(group+archiving).html?groupid=7

KarlKarl on Wednesday, 13 April 2011 18:39

Thanks Manoel J. Silva, just had a meeting and posted it here and most all other things were done. I just updated to info on community.joomla.org/user-groups.html – It would be great if I could get some help with this just moved to Orange County and have a lot more interest going on about Joomla in general in this area.

Karl,
Thank you for your comment. This is my plan in more detail I have given it some thought, I just high population areas as a target market. As leader of the Joomla users central coast I have come to the conclusion is do

not expect to many people
Use any available marketing tools as possible.
( In using my group site at ( theplanetjoomla.com – Meetup – and people.joomla.org to post my events )
My plan is to do one a week in cities that have 100,000 plus populations within 20 miles.

I have picked Las Vegas,Nevada and the central coast of California as a permanent bases.

Then I will promote events in other cities around those cities. Try to develop groups the turn them over to locals to run if the take off.

I need my group for ( Joomla users Nevada ) approved that would be sweet.
Cristina SolanaCristina Solana on Sunday, 28 November 2010 11:12

Karl, that does sound like a great plan, it should be very beneficial to the Joomla! community. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.

As far as your JUG, if you would like to be listed on the community site, please create an account and submit a listing at: http://community.joomla.org/user-groups.html

You won't be able to list with a state name so your JUG name for listing purposes needs to be something like: Joomla! User Group Las Vegas.

You will also need to get your domain name approved by OSM, you can start that process here: http://opensourcematters.org/domain-name-use-request.html

Thanks again!

Karl,
We have been coming up with a new plan to spread the word of Joomla. We will now be doing events in different major cities that do not have Joomla users group and specialize in introductory level learning as to attract a new crowd and help them to learn about Joomla. My Job has made it possible for me to set up a groups, and travel to other larger cities as a tour.
Cristina SolanaCristina Solana on Saturday, 27 November 2010 12:43

Karl, that sounds great. Please let us know if there is anyway we can assist you.

Our new JUG in Indianapolis, Indiana (USA) will have its first meeting on November 10! Took a while, but we finally got it off the ground :)
Nathan GiffordNathan Gifford on Monday, 25 October 2010 21:10

Just realized that our group does not show up in the Indiana list here: http://community.joomla.org/user-groups/north-america/united-states/indiana.html

How do I get it there? The group was approved about 3 months ago.

Suggestions anyone? :)

Hey Guys we just discovered that our JUG listing for Joomla User Group Pune , is missing from the list here : http://community.joomla.org/user-groups/asia-pacific/india.html

Is there a reason its removed ?
Wilma HowellWilma Howell on Tuesday, 19 October 2010 12:00

When the new User Group system was put in place, all listing from the old system (both active and pending) were transferred to the new system. Unfortunately some of those listings were for groups that were no longer active or not valid. So a cleanup procedure was created. Per the announcement posted here and the email sent to the primary contact of all posted User Groups, any group that did not updated their list since August 13th was considered inactive and automatically unpublished on September 30.

If your listing is no longer published, you should resubmit. I do see that a new entry for Pune has been submitted this week.

Hi JUG editors -- I see Joomla User Group New England falls under US -> Vermont. Technically this is correct because we meet in Vermont. However, we are 12 miles/19 km from Massachusetts and literally a stone's throw from New Hampshire -- our meeting is held right on the border. We have regular attendees from all three states. This is the reason we are called JUG New England, rather than JUG Vermont.

If it's possible to list us under more than one state in your directory, we would greatly appreciate it.

thanks,
Jen
Wilma HowellWilma Howell on Tuesday, 19 October 2010 12:08

It is not possible to list a user group in more than one state due to limitations in the system. In general, we ask groups to name themselves for a city or metro area to encourage local groups with regular physical meetings, to reduce confusion, and to provide naming fairness across groups.

Jen KramerJen Kramer on Tuesday, 19 October 2010 12:26

Elin Waring approved our name in March 2008. We are physically located in Vermont. We are 100 yards from New Hampshire and 12 miles from Massachusetts.

I would ask that the system be improved to accommodate more than one state. There are other user groups in this predicament. NOVA joomla serves Virginia, Maryland, and DC. If there were a group in Kansas City, it would serve Missouri and Kansas. I don't think you can limit groups to one state arbitrarily.

thanks,
Jen

Karl,
Cristina Solana the link is not good on the last posting - I need help updated our listing to have access to mosset tree user account for the central coast joomla users group. I think that this jomsocial is a better way to manage the jugs it gives user the option of setting events within jomsocial a big plus to post the meeting that way.
Cristina SolanaCristina Solana on Tuesday, 14 September 2010 20:53

Hi Karl, we are looking at the options we have for allowing JUGs to list events. We will keep you posted. The link is correct, but Jomsocial included the period at the end of the sentence as part of the url. I corrected it below.

The Add Category option was for adding additional countries that may have accidentally been left off the country list. We have had a couple of people accidentally try to submit their group through the Add Category option. Since the Add Category form did not have a place for contact information, we cannot even send a note to those people asking them to submit through the right form. In order to eliminate this confusion, we've turned off Add Category from the front end. If we've left off any countries, you can simply let us know in this group.
