What we do want:
We want this group to be a place where people can freely discuss or ask questions regarding the tasks of the OSM board. We also want to encourage you to share your views and ideas on improvements we can make.

What we don’t want:
We kindly ask you not to discuss or ask questions regarding CLT or PLT in this group. You can post them in the groups they have provided on JPeople.

What we can do:
As far as possible we will try to answer your questions right away. Sometimes it may take some time if we need to discuss it within OSM before providing the appropriate answers. We will listen to your ideas and discuss them with you, the community, or with the members on the OSM board.  We always welcome your ideas and will take them seriously at all times.

Basic Rules for Discussions

  • Be polite and friendly
  • Do not make excessive use of capital letters or punctuation
  • Stick to the topic
  • Do not repeat yourself over and over in discussions
  • Do not attack other community members for their opinions

And, of course, follow the code of conduct for JPeople [http://people.joomla.org/guidelines.html]

FAQ or Policy on Reports and Questions

Reports
As mentioned in Article VIII of the bylaws [http://opensourcematters.org/policies/by-laws.html] OSM will publish within a reasonable period of time documents for public review such as annual reports, plans for the coming year, minutes from all board meetings, financial reports, and tax filings.

Our goal is to publish the approved Board Meeting Minutes within a week after the following board meeting.

Our goal is to publish un-audited financial statements within three months following the end of the reporting period.

If we are unable to meet such a deadline we will communicate that to the community.

Hi Claudio, We realise that the process for registering tm issues isn't always as easy and smooth as we would like to see it. I'm happy to refer you and everybody who has frustrations or even anger about our trademark policies to this email: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/joomla-leadership/IPayGTuiTI0/cgTgvnM5Ui0J I quote from this mail: To help us out, we’ve temporarily created an email address to receive your concerns until we have a better system in hand. If you have a concern, please write our Trademark Team at tm@opensourcematters.org to share your thoughts and potential process solutions. Concerns about processes can be most effectively handled when we have potential solutions to work with, as a problem paired with a potential solution has much more impact than just a problem. (end of quote) Let's keep this thread open for people who can refer us to other trademark policies to help us improve our own. As a sidenote: Let's also be careful in our choice of words we use to express our feelings.

Chad, Freddy, gnumax and Isidro: Thank you for all your comments. Trademark information and registration is definitely one of the main reasons why people visit the OSM web site. I've created a separate thread for Trademark specific discussions and ideas: http://people.joomla.org/groups/viewdiscussion/1243-Ideas+about+simpler+Trademark+rules+and+processes.html?groupid=579 A question to all: When you look at the front page of the OSM web site, what do you expect to see on that first page. Keep in mind that in the Joomla! Project, OSM's main responsibilities are: - Managing the funds of the Joomla! project. (for the web site: sharing reports & budget & and using the site to raise funds) - Protecting the Trademark (Trademark information and submission forms) - PR and Marketing Please share your thoughts. (Hoping to hear from some UX experts too!)

It was a privilege to be present at this International community event, and to share this experience with many fellow OSM board members, LT members, and the greater Joomla community. I had the opportunity to chat to various people, including those who I may not have got along with (online) in the past. ;) My general impression (and also from this OSM session) was that people were enthusiastic and seriously interested in the future of Joomla! (the software, the project, the community). There were also real frustrations, and real concerns, but along with that a willingness to contribute and to collaborate to help to make things better.

Fine with me Andrea. The original intent of the discussion has been distorted beyond any credible recognition.

It would've been great to have gone to jab11 but, nevertheless, it is still just as wonderful, even from the distance and not having had the chance to meet personally, to know that our leaders care about our Project and community as much as they do, and demonstrate it year after year. Our leaders, community and Joomla really rock! :)

Thanks to everyone who has emailed me and responded to emails... this is looking to be very exciting. Cheers Philip

@Jacques - The one thread became a one way conversation between two people that has no relevancy to the original topic http://people.joomla.org/groups/viewdiscussion/1107-OSM+Fianancial+Reports.html?groupid=579 there was no use in responding in that topic regarding the suggestion of a 90 day timeline for reports, which I had concerns about. My discussion was more about moving forward instead of looking to the past but I am grateful that the minutes are up to date! Good work! The locked thread doesn't pertain to my questions or suggestions really as I am not lecturing people on what, how, who, where or why they can discuss a topic or not. Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it. I am also glad Alice is helping you out with the meeting minutes. Anytime you can get a helping hand in any task it is a good thing. Thanks @Alice. @Paul thank you for answering. Your answer now makes the delay in posting the financial records make sense. Thank you for making that clear. I guess overall I was hoping to have a constructive discussion on how to make these processes work more smoothly, are there suggestions for tools or organization techniques that would make each of your tasks easier? Any tools or techniques that anyone can share that would help lessen the workload? Are there redundancies that can be eliminated, or efficiencies that can be implemented that can help you?

PLEASE get these discussions on a different group! They do NOT belong on the OSM group as OSM has not one thing to do with this! I don't know how to make this more clear. Here is a link to a more appropriate group! http://people.joomla.org/groups/viewgroup/398-Joomla+Community+Workgroup.html

hi Dave. You are miss-quoting me. I said: "OSM is currently in the process of (re-)electing the officers of the board..." That's not saying that all officers will be re-elected. That's why I purposefully put the re- in brackets. You would be aware that the officers of the board are elected from the board, by the board. (you cannot be an officer of the board if you are not already a director of the board). We are going through the process since our statutes and the law require it from us. There's of course a very good chance that Ryan would be re-elected as President of the board, otherwise the board would not have indicated our wish for him to stay on as board member. Similarly there's a very good chance that Paul will be re-elected as Treasurer. Officer positions on the board do however not automatically renew, and the board will therefore complete the process as required from us.

I want to incorporate a shopping cart to my site (VirtualMart). How do I go about to have the front page load with my template? Your help will be appreciated.

You should ask this question in the forums. Not appropriate for OSM group.

Quick note of thanks to Philip and Jenifer for the update on the npo status. I'm 100% in agreement with the board's strategy. C3 is an utter waste of resources, glad OSM decided against further work on that avenue.

You are welcome John. :)

+1 for more freedom and flexibility for your board. C3's work for charitable pure-plays (humanitarian, education, etc). Full steam ahead for OSM!

Why dont the joomla.org web sites say that joomla is a registered trademark of open source matters in the footer? Even if it's not deemed strictly required it would be an example of best practice for others.

That OSM has created a board here is a good start. Hopefully OSM and a lot of people will use it :-)

Beat,
Just saw this group created and also wanted to say thank you for creating this informal space and for your continuous effort to implement accountability, openness, and most importantly joining the community, listen to it and act. Way to go.

Just spotted the enhanced board minutes and wanted to say thank you and congratulations on this new level of openness and transparency
JacquesJacques on Sunday, 20 June 2010 15:35

Thank you Brian, we are all trying our best. The next Minutes (for the previous month's meeting), as well as the monthly financial reports that Dave Huelsmann prepares, will be up by the end of the month. (usually a week after a board meeting)
