Mission Statement

The JPeople team works together to ensure the site is organized and pleasant for the members while protecting the right of differing views through civil conversation. We uphold the Community Code of Conduct which guides us through respectful collaboration.

The current JPeople team is made up as follows:

Site Administration

Adding extensions, Backend administration such as group approvals, Organizational duties to maintain a comfortable environment in which to collaborate, and Site moderation including assisting group admins in maintaining a pleasant experience for all, removing inappropriate material such as SPAM, and anything related to the site as a whole.

Site Admins do not typically get involved in group issues unless they are called upon or if the thread is against the Community Code of Conduct or JPeople Guidelines without group admin response to the situation.  In some cases, the Site Admins are also group admins and then they act in that position or sometimes both depending on the circumstances.

Community Supervisors

Community Supervisors assist the Community Managers and Group Admins.  They have front end administration abilities such as editing group titles, recategorization of groups and moderation tools.

Moderators strive to make it a pleasent environment for the majority of users, while still protecting the right of conflicting views to be expressed in a civil manner.

JUG Management

JUG Managers have the same tools as Community Supervisors, however their focus is on JUG groups only.  Manage JUG groups to ensure consistency between JUG Directory and JPeople groups, including naming convention and categorization.

GPL and Trademark Compliance

Ensure all Fan Clubs are in GPL and TM compliance.  JED will be sending a liason for this position.

Not currently assigned

Video Management

Moderate the Video to ensure they are within JPeople guidelines.  Communicating as necessary with members.

Forum Management

Assist users by answering questions as well as moderation tasks in the JPeople forum

Community Help Group Management

The Community Help Group is the communication hub for the JPeople site.  Questions, comments, and assistance is available for all of the members of the JPeople site.

Monitor and assist members at the JPeople Community Help Group.

Language Specific Community Managers

Assist members in their language as needed and perform any moderation needed in their areas.  Lisason between their specific language members and the Site Admins for any needs that we may not otherwise understand.  Presently assigned as follows:

There is always room for more translators on JPeople.  Message Sandra Warren or post a message in the Community Help Group

Group Admins

Each JPeople group has at least one admin.  The group admins are responsible for maintaining the Community Code of Conduct within the group.  They may also have additional group rules that are decided upon which they will enforce as they see fit with the tools available.

Group Admin details:

We also encourage each group admin to join the JPeople Admin Private Group where you can converse with the site admins, Community Managers and moderators as well as voice opinions on current projects and issues.  Get involved today!

It is preferable for the groups to have group guidelines and expectations posted in your group.  There are many options that Groups have to choose from.  Below are some suggestions to remain friendly while keeping your group civil.

  • Inappropriate Posts:  Delete post and replace with a message to the author to please reword his post and try again is the friendliest way to address this.
  • Inappropriate Threads:  Delete the thread or post a message that the thread is closed to further discussion.  Any further posts are then deleted without notice.
  • Trolling, Flaming, and Personal attacks:  None of these are allowed on JPeople as they are also against the Code of Conduct for all Joomla sites.  Group Admins are expected to address these issues promptly in their group.  Ideas for such issues are:
    • Warning those involved to avoid this behavior
    • Remove the offending posts and ask them to reword their post more appropriately
  • If these options are not effective, the group may ask the Community Supervisors or Admins for assistance.

Please feel free to call upon the Site Admins if we are needed.  We would be happy to assist in defusing the situation.
