Hi guys

The Jpeople team has worked hard reviewing your the community feedback in the Mega Purposeful Thread.  We hope to have a solution for you very soon.

We have made some team changes that we should let you know about.  Philippe has been pulled away on a major project and will not be able to continue as Admin.

We are very happy to announce that Willin, Guillermo Bravo, has gaciously accepted the position and is already busy in his position.  Thank you Willin for stepping up to the plate.

More news coming soon so stay tuned.

Thank you

Group Admin Moderation Options PDF Print E-mail

Occasionally groups will experience posts, threads or topics that need to be moderated.  It has come to our attention that many do not understand the role of group administrator, so allow me to explain.

Site Administrators vs Group Administrators

Group Admins:  Responding to posts, encouraging colaboration and other communications with the group as well as Group Moderation.

Site Admins:  Adding extensions, Backend administration such as group approvals, Organizational duties to maintain a comfortable environment in which to collaborate, and Site moderation including assisting group admins in maintaining a pleasant experience for all, removing inappropriate material such as SPAM, and anything related to the site as a whole.

Site Admins do not typically get involved in group issues unless they are called upon or if the thread is against the Code of Conduct without group admin response to the situation.  In some cases, the Site Admins are also group admins and then they act in that position or sometimes both depending on the circumstances.

Moderation

It is preferable for the groups to have group guidelines and expectations posted in your group.  There are many options that Groups have to choose from.  Below are some suggestions to remain friendly while keeping your group civil.

  • Inappropriate Posts:  Delete post and replace with a message to the author to please reword his post and try again is the friendliest way to address this.
  • Inappropriate Threads:  Delete the thread or post a message that the thread is closed to further discussion.  Any further posts are then deleted without notice.
  • Trolling, Flaming, and Personal attacks:  None of these are allowed on JPeople as they are also against the Code of Conduct for all Joomla sites.  Group Admins are expected to address these issues promptly in their group.  Ideas for such issues are:
    • Warning those involved to avoid this behavior
    • Remove the offending posts and ask them to reword their post more appropriately
  • If these options are not effective, the group may ask the Site admins for assistance.

Please feel free to call upon the Site Admins if we are needed.  We would be happy to assist in defusing the situation.

Thank You

Congrats JPeople!

  • 4006+ users
  • 33000+ activities
  • 959 photos
  • 267 videos
  • 536 group discussions
  • 441 groups
  • 588,000+ page views
  • 99,000+ visits (49,000 visitors)

Those numbers look great considering that the site is still in in pre-release. As we are actively working on some additional features before our "official" release, we are opened to your suggestions and feedbacks on how to enhance collaboration among people.joomla.org users.

From the article written by Matt Lipscomb:
"With the recent launch of people.joomla.org the community has seen a shift in the way it communicates. The new site, branded as the J!People Portal, launched as a “beta” version on 12 May 2010 and was quietly introduced in a simple blog post. Now, after just over two weeks, the new community networking site boasts involvement of over 2500 community members. We decided to sit down with the two site administrators, Philippe Tassin and Sandra Warren, so we could find out the inside scoop and more! "
